Spotlight on WIMER at IMEKO2024: Empowering Women in Metrology and Energy Research

We are thrilled to announce that IMEKO2024 will feature a dedicated focus on the contributions of women in the fields of metrology and energy research through the UN Sustainable Development Goals Workshop.

 About WIMER

Women in Metrology and Energy Research (WIMER) is a global network formed in 2022 during the International Conference on Green Hydrogen. This initiative aims to support and empower women scientists, doctoral candidates, and students engaged in the metrology and energy sectors. By bringing together international speakers, professors, and industry professionals, WIMER provides a platform for sharing achievements and addressing the challenges of balancing work and life.

 Addressing Underrepresentation

Women remain significantly underrepresented in scientific research. The OECD International Survey of Scientific Authors (ISSA2) indicates that only 30% of corresponding authors in science are female. WIMER is dedicated to addressing this gap by fostering a supportive environment where women in metrology and energy research can thrive.

 WIMER's Mission

WIMER hosts regular networking events, enabling members to connect with experienced women scientists who share their insights and experiences. Additionally, the organization is committed to securing funding and sponsorships to support young women and girls in beginning or advancing their research in energy and metrology.

 Promoting Inclusivity

WIMER promotes an inclusive environment that welcomes participation from all allies, including male colleagues. By encouraging diverse participation, WIMER aims to create a better understanding of the challenges faced by women in these fields and foster a supportive community.

 Symbolism in the Logo

The WIMER logo is rich with symbolism, representing the contributions of women to metrology and energy research. It features the Roman goddess Venus, a speedometer, and a renewable energy icon. Currently, the logo includes the flag colours of Iran, honouring those who sacrificed their lives for Women, Life, and Freedom. These colours will be updated regularly to highlight ongoing issues affecting women worldwide.
